Bed & Breakfast accommodation (Whangarei Heads)

A charming French style country farmhouse set on thirty-five acres of rural bliss just 15 minutes from Whangarei or 60 minutes from the Bay of Islands. Superb riverbank location, with meandering tree-lined streams, abundant birdlife and tranquillity - a true haven. At Riverdale you are assured of a warm welcome. Two different styles of accommodation are offered.

Boutique Bed & Breakfast - Relax in the Riverview Room, in your own private guest wing located within the farmhouse. It has its own bathroom with quality porcelain fittings, power shower and endless hot water. Your bedroom is utterly charming, enjoying warm afternoon sun. Cosy bathrobes, thick towels on heated rails, beautiful toiletries, crisp top quality linens, fresh flowers, and magazines. CD player and disc selection in room. There is a private guest lounge and library, with crackling fire and complimentary brandy & whisky. Soak up some sun on the terrace surrounded by old fashioned roses or while away a few hours in the delightful private courtyard while enjoying a bottle of bubbly. Farmhouse breakfasts are served at the sunny kitchen table. In season we invite you to help yourself to our peaches, nectarines, plums, apples, pears, figs, boysenberries, grapes and citrus. Dinners available by arrangement.

Self Catering Apartment - The Cabbage Tree is our self-catering, easy on the pocket option. It’s not in the house but attached to the garage block, with its own private entrance. A separate bedroom sleeps one or two in a double bed, your bathroom is stocked with basic toiletries, cosy combined sitting and dining room has TV & CD player and music selection, mini library with books, magazines and games to pass an evening. The fully equipped kitchen uses a microwave and hotplates, supplemented by a deep-dish electric frypan for cooking. Basic pantry items such as olive oil, seasonings, tea & coffee selection, and condiments are provided, as well as well as a continental breakfast start-up pack. Laundry facilities are available for a small charge.

There is a nearby village with Service Station, Mechanical Repairs, Post Shop, General Store and Fish & Chip Shop only 10 mins drive or enjoy a drive along country lanes to a great Country Pub which does meals every evening and lunches & espresso at weekends - just 6 mins drive.

Stretch your legs with a walk over our fields and across the road to see the Mangere Falls - magnificent after rain. Savour the peace and take a few moments of solitude in our local award winning chapel built from native timbers, overlooking the river and falls. Wander along the riverbank and chat to the ducks and the cows. Take time out from the city and the crowds. Play a round of golf at one of several quality golf courses nearby. Follow one of our five different day trip routes and explore, making sure you have your complementary copy of the Northland Food & Wine trail…we are ideally situated to explore this historic region, just off the popular scenic Twin Coast Discovery Highway that takes in the world-renowned Matakohe Kauri Museum, the magnificent Waipoua Kauri Forest, and the sacred Hokianga harbour and sand dunes.
